If you think holiday vacations would be a time when I’d have plenty of extra time to create new content for the site, you’d be mistaken. While it’s true I have plenty of down time, it’s usually taken up by reading (currently reading Barry Eisler’s excellent John Rain spy/assassin books), and by The Steam Holiday Sale. Hundreds of games are on sale, many of them for ridiculously low prices, so it’s impossible to get away without buy a shitload few.
So, rather than creating innovative and interesting posts, I’ve been lazing around reading books playing video games.
One interesting game I played was Thirty Flights of Loving. I took a flyer (har har) on this game since it was only $2.49 and had a Metacritic score of 88. It’s the sequel to Gravity Bone (yeah, I never heard of that one either), which is included free when you purchase TFOL.TFOL’s not a typical game in that you don’t shoot anything, there aren’t any puzzles to solve, there are no birds to fling (although you do get to push a few off a railing), and you don’t need to ask your friends to send you bales of hay. You just walk through the detailed environment and let the story unfold. It’s a unique experience and it only takes about 15 minutes to play.
You read that right; a game that only takes 15 minutes to beat.
It was a very different and entertaining way to spend an hour (played through once, did the developer’s commentary, and then played Gravity Bone). So what at first seems like $9.96 per hour of game play is actually only $2.49 and hour. A veritable bargain.
If you’re interested, you can read an actual review of the game here.
