Wrinkled Finger Mystery Solved?

Ever wonder why your fingers get all prune-like when you’re in a hot tub for six hours? Well, scientists have been trying to figure this out for years (guess there’s not much to work on these days). Turns out it the pruneification of your digits may be an evolutionary advantage for our ancestors that were forced to forage in the rain. Scientists figured out that people with wrinkly hands can pick up wet objects faster than those with dry hands. The crinkled hand subjects had no such advantage with dry objects, so there’s your proof.

Evolution inspired diet tip: switch from crinkle cut fries to smooth sided fries to slow your pace at the dinner table.

While I was out…

If you think holiday vacations would be a time when I’d have plenty of extra time to create new content for the site, you’d be mistaken. While it’s true I have plenty of down time, it’s usually taken up by reading (currently reading Barry Eisler’s excellent John Rain spy/assassin books), and by The Steam Holiday Sale. Hundreds of games are on sale, many of them for ridiculously low prices, so it’s impossible to get away without buy a shitload few.

So, rather than creating innovative and interesting posts, I’ve been lazing around reading books playing video games.

One interesting game I played was Thirty Flights of Loving. I took a flyer (har har) on this game since it was only $2.49 and had a Metacritic score of 88. It’s the sequel to Gravity Bone (yeah, I never heard of that one either), which is included free when you purchase TFOL.TFOL’s not a typical game in that you don’t shoot anything, there aren’t any puzzles to solve, there are no birds to fling (although you do get to push a few off a railing), and you don’t need to ask your friends to send you bales of hay. You just walk through the detailed environment and let the story unfold. It’s a unique experience and it only takes about 15 minutes to play.

You read that right; a game that only takes 15 minutes to beat.

It was a very different and entertaining way to spend an hour (played through once, did the developer’s commentary, and then played Gravity Bone). So what at first seems like $9.96 per hour of game play is actually only $2.49 and hour. A veritable bargain.

If you’re interested, you can read an actual review of the game here.
